Ebensburg Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Report - January 2023

Executive Summary

  • Volume Treated: The plant treated 22. 697 million gallons of water, averaging 1. 218 million gallons per day.
  • Sludge: 3. 332 tons of sludge were sent to the landfill.
  • Compliance Violation: The plant recorded its first ammonia violation in 11 years. The permit limit is 3. 5 mg/L, but the plant reading was 4. 5 mg/L due to very cold weather.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Testing: SBR tank testing occurred on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Influent/effluent compliant testing was done on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Routine Tasks: Daily plant rounds, centrifuge operation as needed, and daily cleaning of the influent screening unit were completed.
  • Upcoming Projects: The Borough Engineer is investigating the installation of a new 20" influent valve for SBR tank #2. Contractor Hickes visited the site on December 7, 2022, to assess the project.

Financial Update (WWTP)

  • Maintenance Expenditures:
    • Ace Hardware: $12. 46 (PVC fittings for utility waterline repair)
    • Tercek: $180. 00 (Yearly alarm service)
    • NAPA: $111. 29 (5 gallons of gear oil)
  • Maintenance Cap: $303. 75 spent this month. Year-to-date and remaining balance will be reported next month.

Health, Safety & Personnel

  • Safety Record: No accidents occurred in January. Personnel have worked 6,571 days (17 years, 10 months) without an injury.
  • Training: Weekly tailgate meetings, COVID-19 updates, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training, and cyber security updates were conducted.

Executive Summary

  • Volume Treated: The plant treated 32,281,000 gallons of reservoir water, averaging 1,041,323 gallons per day.
  • Water Purchases: An average of 90,931 gallons per day was purchased from Saltlick and blended into the distribution system.
  • Water Sales: Water was supplied to Nanty Glo from January 5th–23rd at a rate of 150-300 GPM.
  • Compliance: First-quarter disinfection by-product samples collected on January 3rd showed results roughly half the maximum contaminant level. Both TTHM and HAA5 results are decreasing, suggesting a return to compliance in 2023.
  • Inspections: An annual inspection and service of the WTP chlorine room was performed by Inframark and Heritage Environmental Services.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Production: Daily production fluctuated between 831,000 and 1,303,000 gallons.
  • Filter Maintenance: One filter is taken offline, washed, and returned to service three times weekly.
  • Work Orders: Staff completed 88 work orders, including ladder inspections, greasing pumps and drives, fire extinguisher checks, SCBA inspections, sump pump exercises, and chlorine room regulator repairs.
  • Upcoming Projects: Service for clarifiers and DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) units, inspection of motor control cabinet breakers, and assessment of variable frequency drives.

    • Napa: $299. 96 (Blower/Clarifier belts)
    • Walmart: $105. 98 (SD cards for online analyzers)
    • Hach: $539. 97 (Spectrophotometer glassware/Class A beakers)
