Ebensburg WWTP Monthly Report: September 2023

Executive Summary

During September 2023, the Ebensburg wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) treated 14,893,600 gallons of wastewater — averaging 496,500 gallons per day. All operational and testing requirements were met.

Key maintenance activities included:

  • The centrifuge was operated once weekly; 2. 771 tons of sludge were sent to landfill.
  • Mixer #2 in SBR tank #2 could not be lifted due to a tangled stainless-steel cable around the slide rail. Staff cut the cable and installed a new one.
  • On September 13, an alarm at the CAT pumping station was traced to a tangled float. It was untangled, restoring normal operation.
  • On September 15, a failing pump at Emerald Estates pump station was disassembled. Two pieces of green plastic disc were found lodged in the impeller. After removal and reassembly, all four pumps at the lift station are now operational.

Operations & Compliance

Testing Schedule:

  • SBR tank testing: Monday, Wednesday, Friday — includes Settleability, MLSS, and MLVSS.
  • Influent/effluent compliance testing: Tuesdays and Thursdays — includes TSS, BOD, CBOD.
  • Effluent pH and Dissolved Oxygen: Tested daily (7 days/week).
  • All data entered into WIMS daily for E-DMR reporting.
  • Monthly reports submitted electronically to DEP by the 28th of each month.

Plant Operations:

  • Industrial Park and Emerald Estates pump stations checked daily.
  • Compliance samples collected daily.
  • Process control lab work completed daily.
  • Centrifuge operated; sludge pumped to digesters for thickening.
  • Aeration cycles adjusted to optimize sludge.
  • Influent and effluent samplers checked daily.

Maintenance & Repair:

  • Inframark staff completed 216 work orders in September.
  • Greased decanters on SBR tanks.
  • Monthly safety inspections completed.
  • Hosed and cleaned U. V. trough, bulbs, sensors.
  • Influent screening unit hosed and cleaned daily.
  • Checked oil and belts on blowers daily.
  • Centrifuge building floor hosed.
  • Cut grass and weeds around facility premises.
  • Control building floors swept and mopped weekly.
