Ebensburg WWTP Monthly Report - October 2023

Executive Summary

During October 2023, the Ebensburg wastewater treatment plant treated 15,697,600 gallons of wastewater — averaging 506,374 gallons per day. All operational and testing requirements were met.

Key activities included:

  • Centrifuge operated weekly; 6. 603 tons of dry sludge sent to landfill.
  • Stutzman hauled 54,200 gallons of sludge from Somerset Co. Water system into drying beds.
  • Kone Cranes performed annual hoist inspections.
  • Staff installed two rebuilt mixers in SBR tanks and fabricated new stainless-steel lifting cables.
  • Screening unit repaired locally for ~$1,900 (vs. $46,000 quote from pumpman).
  • Trojan replaced burnt-out UV bulbs and one ballast; UV system now at 100% functionality.
  • Generator maintenance plan developed after discovering lack of recent servicing. Transfer switch at Emerald Estates lift station found non-operational during generator start-up — manufacturer contacted, working with Dodson Electric for repair.

Operations & Compliance

Testing Schedule:

  • SBR tanks: Tested Mon/Wed/Fri for process control (Settleability, MLSS, MLVSS).
  • Influent/effluent compliance: Tested Tue/Thu for DEP reporting (TSS, BOD, CBOD).
  • pH & Dissolved Oxygen: Tested daily.
  • Composite samples collected; all data entered into WIMS daily for E-DMR reporting.
  • Monthly reports submitted electronically to DEP by 28th of each month.

Plant Operations:

  • Industrial Park and Emerald Estates pump stations checked daily.
  • Centrifuge operated; sludge pumped to digesters for thickening.
  • Aeration cycles adjusted to optimize sludge.
  • Influent/effluent samplers checked daily.

Maintenance & Repair

Inframark staff completed 218 work orders in October. Key tasks:

  • Greased decanters on SBR tanks.
  • Repaired screening unit.
  • Investigated SBR#2 fault.
  • Completed monthly safety inspections.
  • Hosed/cleaned UV trough, bulbs, sensors.
  • Daily cleaning of influent screening unit.
  • Checked oil/belts on blowers daily.
  • Hosed centrifuge building floor.
  • Cut grass/weeds around facility.
  • Swept/mopped control building floors weekly.
