Ebensburg WWTP Monthly Report - October 2024
Report Date: November 25, 2024 Prepared by: Luke Byrne, Project Manager
Executive Summary
During October 2024, the Ebensburg wastewater treatment plant treated a total of 13,950,010 gallons of wastewater (averaging 450,000 gallons per day). The facility operated the centrifuge weekly, sending 9. 3 tons of dry sludge to the landfill.
Key operational updates include:
- Toxicity Testing: Annual Whole Effluent Toxicity testing was completed. The effluent discharge was found to be non-toxic to test organisms in all three categories. The 80-page report was submitted to the PA DEP on November 11, 2024.
- Equipment Repairs: Staff replaced a bad proximity switch on the centrifuge conveyor and noticed heavily worn liners, for which a replacement quote has been requested. Fuses were inspected on the #1 wet well pump, and a new wear ring was installed. The #2 wet well pump is currently being pulled for bearing inspection and rebuild.
- New Installations: A new flow meter was installed for the centrifuge and is operating properly.
- Pending Items: Dodson Electric has ordered two new unit heaters for the headworks building. The estimated arrival was November 7th, but a delay has been reported; they will be installed promptly upon receipt.
- Maintenance: Staff unclogged floor drains in the centrifuge building and WWTP basement. Sewer lift stations were inspected regularly, with pump runtime hours documented and generators exercised. Basket screeners were pulled and cleaned.
Operations & Compliance
- Testing Schedule: SBR tank testing occurs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Influent/effluent compliant testing for DEP reporting occurs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Effluent pH and Dissolved Oxygen are tested daily.
- Data Reporting: All data is entered into WIMS daily for E-DMR monthly reporting. Monthly reports are sent electronically to the DEP by the 28th of each month.
- Plant Activities: Daily activities included inspecting industrial park and Emerald Estates pump stations, cleaning screening units, grit removal inspections, and optimizing polymer feed systems. Floating debris was removed from SBR tanks, and aeration cycles were altered to optimize sludge.
