Ebensburg WWTP Monthly Report: November 2024

Facility: Ebensburg Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)
Executive Summary
- Wastewater Treated: 19. 6 million gallons in November (avg. 652,200 gal/day).
- Sludge Disposal: 8. 7 tons of dry sludge sent to landfill via weekly centrifuge operation.
- Repairs & Maintenance:
- Fixed leak on process water line.
- Old yard hydrant broken and terminated underground.
- Winter prep underway: summer equipment moved to blower building; winter gear brought to main garage.
- HVAC & Heating System:
- McCarl’s HVAC performed annual cleaning/maintenance on oil boiler and electric unit heaters (Nov 21).
- One circulating pump beyond repair due to age; project quoted for new pump, air separator, and pipe replacements.
- Grit Removal System:
- Added three auger cycles per day — results successful, more grit removed daily.
- Equipment Issues:
- 1995 case loader spraying hydraulic oil from pump — unusable due to severity; Inframark working with borough to find replacement.
- New Equipment Ordered:
- Dodson Electric ordered two explosion-proof unit heaters for headworks building.
- Original ETA: Nov 7 → Revised ship date: Jan 2, 2025.
- Sewer Lift Stations:
- Regular inspections, pump runtime documented, generators exercised.
- Basket screeners cleaned out; heaters/exhaust fans adjusted for winter.
- Trees/limbs cleared from Emerald Estates lane pump road; marker flags placed for plowing.
Operations & Compliance
- Testing Schedule:
- Effluent pH, alkalinity, dissolved oxygen: tested daily.
- SBR tank testing (Settleability, MLSS): Mon/Wed/Fri.
- Influent/effluent compliance testing (TSS, BOD, CBOD, Phosphorus, Nitrogen, Ammonia, Fecal Coliform): Tue/Thu.
- UV intensity recorded; composite samples collected.
- Reporting:
- All data entered into WIMS daily for E-DMR monthly reporting.
- Monthly reports submitted electronically to DEP by 28th of each month.
- Stormwater Inspections: Conducted regularly.
Plant Operations Highlights
- Inspected Industrial Park and Emerald Estates pump stations.
- Daily screening unit cleanouts; grit removal optimization.
- Adjusted SBR phases and dissolved oxygen levels for seasonal changes.
- Sludge pumped to digesters; decanted to allow thickening.
- Centrifuge operations, polymer feed system optimized.
- Removed floating debris from SBR tanks; altered aeration cycles for sludge optimization.
- Checked influent/effluent samplers daily; UV operational checks completed.
Maintenance & Repair Activities (97 Work Orders Completed)
- Greased decanters on SBR tanks and screening unit.
- Hosed/cleaned influent screening unit daily.
- LOTO applied to wet well pump; cleaned sludge pump access hatches.
- Replaced cracked polymer pump head.
- Repaired process water lawn hydrant.
- Cleaned headworks bypass channel; inspected grit removal oil levels.
- Cleaned wet well pump floats and UV basin.
- Cleaned #3/#4 digester weirs/troughs.
- Completed monthly safety inspections.
- Checked oil/belts on blowers daily; greased weekly.
- Hosed centrifuge building floor; greased centrifuge.
- Inspected State School weir box.
- Swept/mopped control building floors weekly.
