Ebensburg WWTP Monthly Report (April 2024)

Submitted by: Inframark Water Infrastructure Operations
To: Ebensburg Borough Authority Members
Date of Report Submission: May 20th, 2024
Prepared by: Luke Byrne, Project Manager

Executive Summary

  • The plant treated 33,735,600 gallons of wastewater in April — averaging 1,124,500 gallons per day.
  • All operational and testing requirements were met.
  • One fecal coliform exceedance occurred on April 2nd due to hydraulic overload from heavy rainfall (~5 inches over 4 days).
  • Centrifuge ran twice weekly; 12. 703 tons of dry sludge sent to landfill.
  • Staff repaired centrifuge electrical disconnect switch with Dodson Electric on April 1st; spare ordered.
  • Extensive cleaning of process water channel chamber completed to remove duckweed buildup; skimmer installed.
  • On April 30th, SBR#1 air valve actuator failed during decant cycle. Motor rebuilt but failed again — underlying gear issue identified. New actuator ordered with expedited shipping; two additional actuators ordered to replace antiquated SG series.
  • Sewer lift stations inspected regularly; basket screeners cleaned, heaters reduced for summer, vegetation cleared. Repairs at industrial park Marine lift station scheduled with RAM.

Operations & Compliance

Testing Schedule:

  • SBR Tank Testing (Mon/Wed/Fri): Settleability, MLSS, MLVSS.
  • Influent/Effluent Testing (Tue/Thu): TSS, BOD, CBOD, Phosphorus, Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen, Nitrate-Nitrite, Ammonia as N, fecal coliform.
  • Daily: Effluent pH, Dissolved Oxygen, UV intensity recording, composite samples.
  • All data entered into WIMS daily; monthly reports sent to DEP by 28th.

Plant Operations:

  • Inspected Industrial Park and Emerald Estates pump stations.
  • Collected composite samples; inspected screening units, grit removal processes.
  • Adjusted SBR phases; managed WAS pumps vs settleability.
  • Sludge pumped to digesters for thickening; decanted digesters.
  • Daily lab work, centrifuge ops, polymer feed optimization, sludge dumpster prep.
  • Removed floating debris from SBR tanks; altered aeration cycles to optimize sludge.
  • Checked influent/effluent samplers daily; performed UV operational checks.

Maintenance & Repair

  • Completed 115 work orders in April.
  • Greased decanters on SBR tanks and screening unit.
  • Cleaned out process water chamber; installed duckweed skimmer.
  • Cleaned #3 and #4 digester weirs/troughs.
  • Sludge pump check valve leaking — parts ordered.
  • Disassembled and cleaned polymer feed system.
  • Changed oil in mowers; replaced Auma actuator motor on SBR#1.
  • Completed monthly safety inspections.
  • Hosed/cleaned U. V. trough, bulbs, sensors.
  • Influent screening unit hosed/cleaned daily.
  • Checked oil/belts on blowers daily; greased weekly.
  • Hosed centrifuge building floor; greased centrifuge.
  • Inspected State School weir box.
  • Swept/mopped control building floors weekly.
