Ebensburg Borough Welcomes New Faces

  • Will Westrick has been sworn in as the new Junior Councilor, a position created by Council in 2002 and last occupied in 2012.
  • Westrick, a junior at Central Cambria High School and varsity athlete, stated he took the role to get more involved in local government.
  • The Junior Councilor may attend all meetings (except executive sessions) and participate in proceedings but does not have voting rights.

Oldham & Prokop Join Public Works Crew

  • Caleb Oldham and Logan Prokop joined the Borough public works crew in February and August 2020, respectively.
  • They join veteran crew members Randy Lauer, Tim Frank, Josh Surkovich, and Jeff Evans.

Council Adopts 2021 Budget

  • The Borough Council adopted a $6,063,450 budget for 2021.
  • This marks the 11th consecutive year without a tax increase.
  • Planned Projects for 2021:
    • Replacement of a police cruiser.
    • Replacement of signal housings on the Manor Drive traffic signal.
    • Enhanced security at the water treatment plant.
    • Swimming pool upgrades (new deck chairs, tile repairs).
    • Repairs at Lake Rowena (French drain, pier repairs, concession stand remodeling).

A Successful 2020

  • Council and staff completed numerous projects in 2020, including:
    • Improvements to playing surfaces at Memorial Field.
    • Opening of reservoir property for recreational use.
    • Sewer line extensions near West Horner Street.
    • Repairs to the reservoir drain valve.
    • Full re-appraisal of Borough and Authority property.
    • New curbs and sidewalks on Caroline, Horner, Crawford, and Sample Streets.
    • Milled and resurfaced all streets in the northeast quadrant.
    • Replaced a dump truck.
    • Approved plans for a Dog Park at Lake Rowena.
    • Resurfaced the airport runway and obtained a grant for taxiway resurfacing.
    • Obtained certification in the PA Sustainable Community Program.

  • The average Ebensburg Borough taxpayer pays approximately $226 (13 mills) per year for borough services.
  • This covers police/fire protection, street sweeping, snow plowing, resurfacing, traffic signals, recreation, leaf collection, playgrounds, and street lighting.

    • Borough: 13% ($225)
    • County: 33% ($582)
    • School District: 54% ($943)

Ebensburg Water Treatment Plant Receives AWOP Award

  • The plant received an Area Wide Optimization Program (AWOP) Award from the PA Department of Environmental Protection.
  • The award recognizes outstanding efforts in optimizing filter plant turbidity performance.
  • This year, 31 top-performing filter plants across various states received the award.
